It might seem obvious, but exercise is good for you. It has so many benefits for our physical and emotional well-being. Here’s why you should exercise.

Physical Health

Since the Covid-19 pandemic began it is reported that people are more concerned about their general health than ever before. So, it’s no wonder that more of us are deciding to try and improve our overall physical health through exercise.

Disease Prevention: Regular exercise has been medically proven to reduce the risk of developing certain health conditions such as:

  • Coronary heart disease
  • Strokes
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Some types of cancer
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Broken bones and fractures- maintaining strong and healthy joints and muscle flexibility can reduce the risk of accidents and injuries.

Endorphins: When we exercise our bodies produce Endorphins, often referred to as the ‘feel-good’ chemicals because they really can make us feel good.

Some Tips

If you’re thinking about getting into exercise and need a bit of help starting out then here are some tips:

  • Start small: Whatever form of exercise you choose, consistency is way more important than how long you’re exercising for so even if you can manage a few short sessions a week that is much better than one really intense session.
  • Take a friend: Starting a new exercise routine can be daunting. Having a friend come along can help keep you motivated and hold each other accountable. It’s also more fun and spending time with others can combat feelings of loneliness.
  • Variety: If you’re doing the same thing every time it can be very easy to get bored, maybe you run the same route every time you go out, or you’re doing the same routine at the gym. By varying your exercise routine you’ll be less likely to get bored and more likely to want to go and work out.
  • Time: It can take a lot of time to start and keep up a new routine. Especially if you weren’t previously very physically active - it could take up to 8 weeks before you feel comfortable in your routine but don’t be discouraged this is completely normal!
